Safely Share the Road and Sidewalk

Whether you arrive at school in the mornings by bus, bicycle, foot, or car, please make sure that you are considerate of others and their respective modes of transportation.

A Few Transportation Reminders:

  • Absolutely no cell phone usage in carpool line.
  • Do not stop your vehicle in a crosswalk.
  • When turning into the DES parking lot, please use caution.
  • Do not let your child exit your car in the parking lot. They can only exit the car safely along the designated drop-off median.

We have multiple walkers, strollers, and bikers – please share the sidewalk space!

Any cyclist under 12 years of age is legally allowed to ride on the sidewalk. When entering a congested area on your bike, slow down or dismount.

A topic relevant to all in Region 1 schools is the upcoming REDISTRICTING for the new Austin Elementary School.  Dekalb County will host Public Input Meetings on the following dates:

  • Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 at Dunwoody HS
  • Wednesday, October 23 at 7:00 at Dunwoody HS
  • Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00 at Dunwoody HS

Please visit for more information delineating expectations for this process.   Your attendance at these input sessions is encouraged!

In an effort to ensure that all understand this process and the implications for Dunwoody ES, the Principal's Advisory Committee voted to form an ad hoc committee to closely follow the redistricting process.  We will be holding two meetings on Tuesday, September 17 at 8:30am and 7:00pm in the cafeteria to help explain the redistricting process and the criteria that the county will use to redraw attendance lines.  We also hope to address your questions and concerns about the process.
