About Dunwoody Elementary School (DES)

  • Dunwoody Elementary is part of the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) and serves students PreK to 5th grade. Currentstudent enrollment as of Fall 2022 is is 797 student. It feeds into Peachtree Charter Middle School (6-8) and Dunwoody High School (9-12).

  • DES was founded in 2009 and is located at 1923 Womack Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338.

  • As of Fall 2022, the racial demographics of Dunwoody are: 9% Hispanic ethnicity, 0.50% Native American, 30% Asian, 22% African American, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 33% White, and 6% 2 or more races. Our student population is 47% female and 53% male. 20% of the student body receives Gifted services, 13% receives English Language Learners, 8% receives Special Education services, and 15% receive free or reduced lunch.

  • DES strives to engineer curiosity by enriching students’ daily learning experiences and encouraging real world connections through all content areas. DES’ goal is to prepare students to compete globally and to become college/career ready.

  • Some accolades include:
    The Governor’s Office of Student Accountability awarded DES with the 2018-2019 Silver Award and 2016 Bronze Award for Highest Performing Schools.
    DES is double certified in STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math) - 2015 GaDOE Initial STEM Certification & 2021 Cognia Initial STEM Certification

About the Dunwoody Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (DES PTO)

  • Any parent with children in Dunwoody Elementary School can join our school’s PTO – and they should!

  • The mission of our PTO is to promote open communication and understanding between parents and staff of Dunwoody Elementary School. Our efforts serve to enhance and maximize the education of every child while aiding them in achieving their highest potential.

  • The PTO sponsors assistance to teachers in the classroom setting, raises monies for supplemental educational materials and experiences, supports school and family social interaction, and provides a non-biased forum for sharing information on issues that impact our children. It is our belief that the team effort of a parent-teacher organization offers the best possible learning environment for our children. You will be given the opportunity to join the PTO during registration. You may also Join the PTO and Donate to the Tiger Fund online!

Get Involved

  • There are also many other ways you can give of your time to help improve the overall quality of your child’s education. We hope you’ll consider getting involved as a volunteer at DES.

  • In the Classroom: Members of the PTO can serve as room parents (must pay dues to become a room parent). There are other classroom opportunities for parents including mystery readers and field trip chaperones.

  • Join a PTO Committee: A great way to get involved is to join a committee that interests you. If you have a passion for a particular committee's responsibility, or feel that a given responsibility is not being properly addressed by a committee, then we want your help.

  • Volunteer at the School: There are many volunteer opportunities at school such as Lunch Bunch and helping in the Media Center. Further, there are volunteer needs during the Book Fair, picture day and at various other events. Whatever your schedule or availability, there are opportunities to volunteer.

  • DES PTO Website: Crete an account to start receiving the weekly Tiger Talk Newsletter (it comes out every Sunday). Once signed up, you have access to the online directory and can join the PTO, make school spirit wear and school supply purchases and have access to our content pages just for our members. You can download the Membership Toolkit app to your phone to stay connected on your mobile device. Find and email board members and committee chairs, get to the school directory, and check the PTO calendar right from your smartphone or PC.   • Tiger Talk: This is the weekly e-newsletter of the Dunwoody Elementary School PTO. Every Sunday, we publish information that is pertinent to the students and parents of DES. Sign up by creating a membership toolkit account.
