What is the PTO?

The PTO sponsors assistance to teachers in the classroom setting, raises monies for supplemental educational materials and experiences that are outside the scope of the school’s budget, supports school and family social interaction, and provides a non-biased forum for sharing information on issues that impact our children. It is our belief that the team effort of a parent-teacher organization offers the best possible learning environment for our children.

The mission of our PTO is to promote open communication and understanding between parents and staff of Dunwoody Elementary School. Our efforts serve to enhance and maximize the education of every child while aiding them in achieving their highest potential.

Why should I join the PTO?

The Parent Teacher Organization supports the education of our children through active participation and advocacy. By joining the PTO, you help create an optimal environment for our children to succeed. When families, schools and communities work together we improve the minds and the well-being of our children. For your $5 membership fee you are able to vote on how the PTO operates throughout the school year from the approval of the annual PTO budget to the Nominating Committee and Executive Committee members. Also, if you’d like to volunteer as a Room Parent you must be a PTO member. Become a member online!

How do I give money to support programs at Dunwoody Elementary?

Donations to the Tiger Fund will provide our students and teachers with the tools needed to excel in the classroom. The PTO operating budget comes from the donations of our parents and will pay for equipment, programs, and services not provided by DeKalb County and local school taxes. Since Dunwoody Elementary PTO is a 501(c)3 non-profit, your contribution is tax-deductible and many employers will even match your contribution! Though you can donate at any time, there are additional benefits to donating to the Tiger Fund at the beginning of the year. Donations are accepted in the form of cash, check or credit card. You can also Donate to the Tiger Fund online!

A few items the PTO will provide are:

  • Field Day

  • Family Nights

  • STEM Curriculum

  • Supply stipend for teachers

  • Medical supplies for the clinic

  • School grounds and the organic gardens

  • Educational tools

  • Books for the leveled reading rooms and classrooms

  • Cultural Arts programs

  • Literacy/Numeracy/Writing resources

  • Musical Performances

  • Technology enhancements

  • Capital improvements

Every child will benefit academically and personally from these programs. Therefore, the Dunwoody PTO encourages each family, to the best of their ability, to make a financial contribution to help the PTO continue to offer programs that enhance the schools learning environment. Donations to the Tiger Fund are tax-deductible.
